St James Shield pendant – a pewter pendant in a shield shape with red enamelled cross of St James, part of the Pilgrimage range. Comes on an 18" tin plated trace chain with pewter St Michael’s Way shell bale.
Also known as the cross Santiago cross, this symbol is known widely by pilgrims throughout the world who take the trail through France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela.
The scallop shell is the traditional symbol of the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain. This route crosses Cornwall on the Saint Michael’s Way from St Uny church, Lelant, to St Michael’s Mount near Penzance. It is a route taken by Irish, Welsh and Cornish pilgrims, that avoids the tempestuous seas around Land’s End and allows them to visit the important shrine of St Michael’s Mount before embarking for Spain.
